A deep red blend showing exuberant fruit on the nose, with sweet notes from the Grenache. Expressive, dark berried fruits on the palate complement the fine tannins and mature flavours through to a long, distinguished finish.
Mas de Les Vinyes is a family winery based in Cabacés, Tarragona. With a long history of cultivating wine grapes alongside other fruit trees, in the 1990s the family decided to focus on producing its own high quality wines. In 1999, they built their own winery and with an intrinsic passion for the land, they concentrated on the cultivation of international varieties Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon alongside the traditional varieties of Grenache, Carignan and Macabeo. The result is a stylish range of modern, youthful and uplifting wines, which are full of vibrant personality and are a reflection of contemporary Spanish lifestyle.
2013 was a cool vintage, with plenty of rain between winter and spring. A dry summer followed, with mild temperatures and the grapes ripened slowly developing complex varietal flavours, while retaining acidity. The harvest was warm and the grapes were harvested with good maturity levels.
The vineyard is located in the DO Montsant in the north eastern Spanish province of Tarragona. The vines are grown at 480 metres above sea level where the diurnal temperature range is excellent for the production of quality grapes; warm days contrast with cool nights which help to extend the ripening period, encouraging the grapes to develop rich varietal characteristics while retaining balancing acidity. The natural weather conditions in the vineyard have enabled disease prevention with just the use of copper and sulphur preparations. The vines are cultivated following a philosophy of sustainable agriculture, with minimal intervention in the vineyard; synthetic products are avoided. The soils are sandy loam with sedimentary shale and incorporate a rich ecosystem.
The grapes were vinified using traditional techniques. Following fermentation the wine rested on its lees with regular lees stirring or ‘bâtonnage’, imparting complexity and texture. The wine was aged for six months in French oak barrels.
