Owned by M. and Mme. Joel Saurel, this vineyard is located at the foot of the famous hills of Montmirail on rocky soils made of clay and white sand. The vines are between 50-60 years old Their wines have regularly won medals in competitions, and the 2001 vintage was awarded the "Coup de Coeur" in Guide Hachette.
Grape variety: 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre with a yield of 34H per hectare.
Harvest: This is started once the grapes are at a maximum maturity. The grapes are hand picked with a very tight selection in the vineyard.
Winemaking: The 2 varieties of grapes are vinified together. Each parcel is harvested and vinified separately. A long fermentation lasting 21 to 30 days takes place in temperature controlled tanks. During this fermentation period the wine undergoes a gentle daily pumping over.
Ageing: In oak vats for a minimum of 6 months
Serve: At 16-18C with roast or grilled red meats and mature cheese.
Taste: A powerful wine showing chocolate and prunes, quite juicy with good structure, tannins with a long and consistent length.
