Fox Gordon is a family run winery specialising in contemporary, premium and award winning wines from the Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills. From a diverse selection of grape varieties, each bottle is the ultimate fusion of wine and fashion. Made using the Fox Gordon philosophy of low input and low yield to give maximum flavour, while preserving the inherent qualities of the fruit and the site; these stylish wines are modern, bright and vibrant.
The fruit is sourced from South Australia. The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Barossa Valley and the Tempranillo comes from Adelaide Hills. The Cabernet vines are 23 years old and the Tempranillo vines are 13 years old. Good Cabernet is difficult to find in the Barossa, however, Fox Gordon has sourced four brilliant sites in the last 20 years and this comes from one of them.
The By George is characterised by two things. Firstly, the fruit was co-fermented for ten days and then racked to tank for two weeks of lees work, to build texture and finish ferment. Secondly, large format, older barrels were used, which gives perfect oak character to the wine while still keeping the fruit fresh. 10% went into new French oak barrels.
Fragrant red summer fruits and notes of wild herbs are first noticeable followed by the clean, ripe nuances of juicy blackcurrants, red liquorice with an earthy hint. Lovely fine tannins thanks to the Cabernet highlighted by the herbal notes from the cool climate Tempranillo.
