Aromas of dark cherry, wild berries and spice with a touch of earthiness. The elegant palate shows sweet ripe fruit combined with a velvety texture.
The fruit for this wine comes from four vineyards in Hawkes Bay – Colefield, Kinross, Tantallon and Riverview – with the largest portion (60%) from Riverview. Riverview is further inland and at higher elevation than most Hawkes Bay vineyards which gives the cooler night-time temperatures which is important for Pinot Noir to develop its flavours. Brix at harvest was between 23.5 and 25.
Winemaking begins with fermentation on skins in the Riverview winery. The wine is on skins for 7 to 10 days. After pressing the wine is transferred to barrel for malolactic fermentation and maturation in new and used French oak barriques. Following 12 months maturation the components are graded and blended prior to bottling in Katikati. This wine was bottled in August 2014.
