The results of the superb 2013 vintage are immediately evident from the deep vibrant red of this wine. The aromas of blackberries, juniper berry, and chocolate plum. The palate is full bodied with sweet ripe fruit flavours supported by fine chalky tannins.
2013 was without question an outstanding red wine vintage in Hawkes Bay. The dry conditions and a long dry autumn allowed for the grapes to reach full tannin and flavour ripeness. The grapes were grown entirely in the Tantallon vineyard in the Bridge Pa area of Hawkes Bay. Brix at harvest was between 24 and 26 brix.
Fermented in both open fermenters and closed top fermenters, with maceration on skins for up to 30 days. This maceration on skins provides the wine with significant tannin structure and depth.
Post fermentation the wine was transferred to barrel for 12 months maturation in new and used French oak barriques.
Following maturation, the wine was blending, fined with egg whites and finally bottling in July 2014.
