Viña Echeverria is wholly owned by the Echeverria family. Their wines are made mainly from their own grapes together with rigorously selected grapes from other growers. All of their wines are bottled on the estate. Roberto Echeverria has recently made a considerable investment both in the vineyard and winery and one of his current primary targets is to obtain certification for his estate as environmentally friendly in all aspects. Great care is taken with the overall vineyard management. The vineyard is sub-divided into very small lots, each controlled for nutrient and water requirements on an individual basis. This helps to ensure balance, ripening and consistency of the grapes throughout the estate so that quality is assured.
Grapes: 100% Merlot single vineyard grapes from ungrafted selected clones of pre-phylloxera French rootstock.
Harvest: Hand harvested in mid April.
Soil: Loam & clay soil, low fertility, well drained gravely subsoil.
Vinification: Harvested by hand and carried to the winery in 18KG boxes immediately after cutting. Fermented to dryness in stainless steel tanks for 10 days at 25-28C. Extended skin maceration for an additional 5 days. 100% malolactic fermentation. Stored in stainless steel tanks at 14-16C for 4 months before bottling. Alc 14%, R/s 3.9 g/l.
Colour: Deep ruby red.Taste: Showing plummy fruit with good depth and texture. Slightly herbaceous.
Serve: At room temperature to accompany grilled roast red meats, and rich pasta dishes.
