Domaine Courbis dates from the 16th century and has been handed down from father to son since the start of the 20th century. The vineyards currently extend to 20 hectares (3Ha in Cornas, 4Ha Saint Joseph white and 13Ha Saint Joseph red) in the communes of Châteaubourg and Cornas. 18 hectares are planted on hillsides facing south and west.The wine cellar, built in 1980, is modern and is equipped temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The wines of Domaine Courbis are of extremely high quality and are exported to Belgium, United Kingdom, the USA and Switzerland.
Grapes: 100% Syrah from 0.7 hectares of old vines planted in 1947
Location: Situated on the right bank of the Rhône, near Valence, the Domaines of Cornas are designated a "Grand Terroir".An exceptional micro-climate, granite sands and mature vines are the winning cards to succeed in the production of fine wines.
Soil: Granite sands, poor soil with rock outcrops. High filtration soils
Winemaking: New fermentation vats - Harvesting by hand with 100% de-stemming. Vinificationin sealed temperature controlled stainless steel vats. Fermented at 30-32C with maximum colour extraction. Maceration lasted 3 weeks.
Ageing: 30% aged in vats and 70% in French barriques of which 25% is new oak for a period of 18 months
Serve: At room temperature to accompany game and mature cheese
Taste: Rich ruby red in colour. A full bodied and generous wine with a long finish. Will age well for up to 10 years from vintage.
