Domaine Courbis dates from the 16th century and has been handed down from father to son since the start of the 20th century. The vineyards currently extend to 20 hectares (3Ha in Cornas, 4Ha Saint Joseph white and 13Ha Saint Joseph red) in the communes of Châteaubourg and Cornas. 18 hectares are planted on hillsides facing south and west.The wine cellar, built in 1980, is modern and is equipped temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The wines of Domaine Courbis are of extremely high quality and are exported to Belgium, United Kingdon, the USA and SwitzerlandGrapes: 100% Syrah.
Location: Situated on the right bank of the Rhône, near Valence, the area around Cornas is designated a "Grand Terroir". An exceptional micro-climate, granite sands and mature vines are the winning cards to succeed in the production of a great wine.
Soil: Granite sands.
Winemaking: The grapes are hand harvested, destemmed and lightly pressed. Vinification takes place in sealed temperature controlled stainless steel tanks at 30-32C.Maceration lasts 3 weeks and maximum colour is extracted.
Ageing: Aged for 18 months in French oak vats and casks (85% in 2-3 year old barrels and 15% in new oak).
Production: Approx. 5000 bottles per annum.
Serve: At room temperature to accompany game and mature cheese.
Taste: A full bodied and satisfying red wine with a hint of blackcurrants, raspberries and violets in the background. A wine for the connoisseur that will age well.
