The generosity of Merlot on this early-ripening terroir brings an exuberant expression to the wine; ripe fruits with a silky, velvety texture in the mouth and a strikingly aromatic nose. Open and engaging when young but more sophisticated when older, without ever losing its voluptuous nature.
Château Bonalogue was built by Captain Rabion a veteran from Napoleon's army who inherited the land. It was purchased by the Bourotte family in 1926. Since then, each family member that has run Bonalgue has been lucky enough to do so with complete freedom and independence. Today it is run by Jean-Baptiste Bourotte and the vineyard is in excellent condition, while the property continues to improve and to refine its methods, while always paying tribute to the exceptional terroir of Bonalgue.
Double and single Guyot trained vines. 6,000 to 8,000 vines per hectare. Manual de-leafing and leaf trimming. Average age of vines 25 years.
Sorting before de-stemming. Fermentation in thermo regulated stainless steel and cement vats. Manual pumping over and maceration for one month. Aged for 18 months in fine French oak barrels (50% new).
Roast goose, game birds or beef dishes.
