Carpineto has been named IWSC Italian Wine Producer Of The Year in 2003 and was the first ever Italian winery ever to win the IWSC International Winemaker Of The Year Trophy in 1994.
Antonio Zaccheo is now aided by his son Antonio and daughter, Francesca who both previously worked in the wine trade in the USA. Giovanni Sacchet's daughter, Caterina, has recently joined the Carpineto winemaking team after finishing her viticulture and oenology degree.
The Carpineto wine making style produces wines that are full-bodied, complex and fruity in character, with a round, supple tannin structure and a long, persistent ,clean finish.
Grapes: 100% Sangiovese
Vinification: Fermentation in temperature controlled vats with medium length skin macerationon.
Ageing: 12 months or more in oak barrels of various sizes and origins (Slavonian and French. The wine is then transferred back into stainless steel tanks prior to bottling. After bottling the wine is aged in temperature controlled cellars for at least 10 months prior to release.
Note: In order to deliver the highest quality Carpineto has chosen to age this wine longer than the 2 years required by the appellation rules for a Riserva wine.
Colour: Intese ruby red with garnet reflections.
Serve: At 17-19C with roast meats, game and stews.
Taste: Rich, velvety, full-flavoured and warm with hints of vanilla and raspberries on the nose. A very fine wine with silky tannins and a long, lingering finish.
