Powerful and complex with a lovely texture and a great example of Chateauneuf du Pape terroir.
Château Fortia is a symbolic estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, both for its location and its roots that are closely linked to that of its appellation. In 1929 due to the efforts of Baron Pierre Leroy, Châteauneuf du Pape became the first appellation with a set of winemaking regulations. Today his descendants still continue the proud family tradition.
Since his arrival on the estate a few years ago, Pierre Pastre has strived to make many improvements in the vineyards including replanting of vines on the correct plots of land to suit the grape variety. Rounded quartzite stones from the Villafranchian period conferring on this domaine one of the best terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. These stones absorb heat during the day then radiate it at night, ensuring full grape maturity is reached.
The grapes are de-stalked. Fermentation in temperature controlled tanks with a long maceration lasting approximately 21 days followed by a malolactic fermentation. After racking the wine is then aged for 12 to 18 months in oak casks.
Powerful and complex with a lovely texture and a great example of Chateauneuf du Pape terroir. Full flavoured and long lasting.
At room temperature to accompany strong flavoured meat dishes, game and mature cheese.
