Andeluna 1300 Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Andeluna was created by its owner, international businessman H.Ward Lay (son of the founder of Lays – the parent company of Walkers crisps). The winery and vineyards are situated in the beautiful Uco Valley close to the town of Tupungato. This area, close to the Andes, is producing some of the best fruit in Argentina and according to us is already producing world-class Cabernet.

Tasting Note:      Richly flavoured with a wonderful structure - well built and muscular. Blackberry, cherry and smoky oak aromas on the nose, sweet gripping tannins with notes of mocha, kirsch, peppers and spice on the palate

Style:                  Full bodied

Variety:               85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 7% Malbec

Viticulture:          The bunches were small and the yields low. Tupungato has high levels of sunshine hours and low rainfall. The winery irrigates with water from the snowmelt on the Andes Mountains

Region:                Mendoza

Soil Type:            Alluvial, sandy stone (good drainage)

Winemaker:         Silvio Alberto with consultant Michael Rolland

Closure:               Synthetic

Fermentation:    Fermented in stainless steel tanks with regular pumping over of skins to intensify colour and flavour. Aged in French and American oak for 8 – 10 months then a further 6 months in bottle before release

Alcohol:              14.2%

Food:                 Chilli con carne, grilled meats, bbq ribs, mature cheese

Awards:             Silvio Alberto was recently recognised as Outstanding Winemaker of the Year in Argentina
