LOCAL SOIL CHARACTERISTICS
Overlooking the town of TURCKHEIM, the "BRAND" faces south and south-east. It reaches 343 m. of altitude. The soil consists of "Turckheim granite" with black and white micas. It is characterised by little water retention capacity. The BRAND covers 58 hectares and DOPFF "Au Moulin" owns 3.2 hectares. The very steep slopes combined with the granite favour a very quick warming up of the soil. RIESLING, PINOT GRIS and specially GEWURZTRAMINER are making the reputation of this area since the 14th century.
VINIFICATION Grape variety : 100% GEWURZTRAMINER grapes, picked by hand on October 17 2005 with 14.9% potential alcohol. Grapes have been pressed entirely without crushing. Static racking of the must was followed by a slow temperature controlled fermentation. Later the wine was stored in old oak casks with the fine lees during several months. Finally this wine was bottled in June 2006
