February News Letter

It must be said that February is not really my favourite month, probably because at this stage of the season winter seems interminable, but this year, probably as the result of a particularly buoyant January, February somehow does not feel so bad!  It is even noticeable that the days are becoming a tiny bit longer which is so welcome.  Chez Poole we are still tucking into comfort food and casseroles so are still enjoying some big reds such as Clos Montblanc Syrah (big juicy, spicy red from Conca de Barbera), Coleccion Malbec (generously spicy and fruity red from Argentina who seems to have made Malbec her speciality red) and at weekends we have pushed the boat out and enjoyed Priorat (either the +7 or the Balcons - both delicious multi layered rich and velvety) or one of our Chateauneuf du Pape reds, all of which are excellent and each with a very distinctive style.  For quaffing whites we have been going for Castillo Montblanc Macabeo Chardonnay (a lovely blend of an aromatic grape with just enough Chardonnay to give it a little creaminess on the finish), or Carmen Sauvignon Blanc Reserva (zesty Chilean Sauv) and Ventolera Sauvignon Blanc (an excellent Chilean bin end reduced from £13.25 down to £9.60 and well worth the money in our opinion).

We are also getting ready for our forthcoming Italian Evening on 12 Feb, for which we still have a few places left so if you are interested please email or phone us, we have some excellent wines lined up for it.
