The story of Bodegas Pinord started more than 150 years ago, when the Tetas family began to make wines on their estate at Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues from grapes they grew themselves and vinified in the traditional way. Since then, the wines produced by the family have been growing in prestige and the family name has become inseparably linked to the name of Penedés wine. In 1942 José Maria Tetas established the existing wine cellars at Vilafranca del Penedés, only 4 km from the original estate. At the present time, Pinord has facilities that can produce more than five million bottles a year, whilst retaining the family integrity and quality standards for which they have become well-known in the area. Today, three generations work together in the family business.
APPEARANCE: Brilliant pale yellow colour.
AROMA: Intense and penetrating perfume, the primary aromas totally dominate and fill the bouquet. The Muscat and Gewürztraminer varieties give it a very pronounced character. Floral aromas such as rose and also honey come through..
TASTE: Young and fresh in the mouth, the very persistent primary aromas return through the back of the nose. A wine with both body and delicacy through its finesse and aroma.
WINE MAKERS COMMENTS: This white wine has been made from two main varieties:: MUSCAT and GEWÜRZTRAMINER with a small percentage of SAUVIGNON BLANC. The Muscat de Frontignan variety has small, extremely aromatic grapes with a lot of terpenes, which are aroma precursors. This means that when you taste a grape, it already has aromas and flavours similar to the wine which is later obtained from it. It is grown in different parts of the Mediterranean basin, from Valencia, through the south of France, to Greece. In El Penedés it is found in the area of Sant Pere de Ribes and Sitges. The Gewürztraminer comes from the Alsace region, which is where it is mostly grown. The word Gewürz in German means spice. Its intense aroma is more reminiscent of spices than grapes. Bodegas Pinord has its own vines with this variety in the Alt Penedes, as it is not widely grown. A variety which, like Muscatel, has a lot of primary aromas which are already found in the grape and are then retained in the wine. Aromas of roses and oriental fruits such as lychees are common in these wines. The coupage of the two main varieties multiplies the aromas and in the mouth the tastes complement each other, resulting in a splendid and original wine with some nice acidity from the Sauvignon Blanc.
