Tasting Note

The nose is fresh and reminiscent of white flowers (hawthorn, acacia). After agitation, it reveals very delicate aromas of floral-flavoured honey and spice bread. A Champagne with a crisp initial impact on the palate, giving way to rich and generous floral notes, enhanced by a touch of liquorice. The dosage is understated and perfectly integrated, thus allowing the true essence of the wine to come to the fore. This finish is exuberant with a freshness accentuated by citrus aromas (lemon and grapefruit).

Producer Note

Champagne Francoise Bedel, a three-generation family-estate is based at Crouttes-sur-Marne, a pretty village on the edge of the Champagne region. The family own 8.4 hectares of vineyards with vines aged between 20 to 60 years. The parcels of vineyard are spread along the banks of the river Marne over four areas: Crouttes-Sur Marne, Nanteuil-Sur-Marne, Charly-Sur-Marne, and Villiers-Saint-Denis. Bedel operates using biodynamic principles which they believe make for high quality wines with their own personality and reflect the unique elements of the terroir.

Winemaking

Part of the harvest is vinified in oak barrels to create the right conditions for controlled oxidation and make the wines rounder and more opulent. The remainder goes into enamelled tanks. Racking sessions and bottlings are timed to coincide with the most auspicious days, according to Maria Thund's lunar calendar. Riddling and disgorging operations are done by hand. The wine spent a minimum of eight years on the lees.
