Producer Note
Cantina Bonacchi, has been making fine Tuscan wines for three generations. The wines are produced from 40 hectares in the Chianti Montalbano area, as well as from 10 hectares divided between Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino. They also own 20 hectares in the Chianti Classico area. Modern technology and family expertise enables Bonacchi to offer excellent products from their four estates in Tuscany.
Vintage
2015 was an extraordinary vintage. Spring was mild, which allowed regular budding to take place. Summer saw excellent conditions, with hot temperatures, little rainfall and cooler, breezy evenings providing good diurnal temperature variation. The grapes matured with superb phenolic ripeness at harvest, resulting in excellent quality and concentration of flavour.
Vineyard
The vines are cordon spur trained vines and are planted in marl and limestone soils. The grapes are harvested using traditional methods once they have reached optimal ripeness, ensuring top quality in the final product.
Winemaking
The Sangiovese grapes were manually harvested and were immediately transferred to temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for fermentation. Daily pumping over and rack and return techniques obtain delicate extraction of flavour, colour and tannins. Malolactic fermentation followed fermentation spontaneously. The wine spent one year in stainless steel retaining the purity of fruit, before being decanted to a combination of large French oak barrels for between six to 12 months.
Tasting Note
A traditional Chianti showing aromas of cherry fruit, blackberry, blackcurrant and red fruits with hints of vanilla. The palate is full and velvety, with harmonious balance through to a long, enveloping finish.
Serving Suggestion
The ideal partner to steak (bistecca alla fiorentina), roast red meats and game.
