Cantina Bonacchi, founded in 1965, is a family owned winery that is situated in the heart of the Montalbano Hills, that lie between the towns of Florence and Pistoia in Tuscany and has been making fine Tuscan wines for 3 generations.
The family owns 40 hectares of vineyards in the Chianti Montalbano and Chianti Classico Gallo Nero as well as 10 hectares divided between Brunello DOCG, Rosso di Montalcino DOC and the Sant'Antino DOC, and 15 hectares from Montecucco DOC vines.
Bonacchi's combined production comprises 60,000 HL stored in barrels, barriques, oak tonnaux and modern steel tanks. Cantina Bonacchi is ISO9001 2000 and IFT certified.
The family's main goal is to produce quality wines at reasonable prices. 50% of the production is exported to Europe, U.S.A and Japan whilst the remainder is sold to all sectors of the Italian market.
Grape Varieties: Trebbiano and Malvasia
Winemaking The grapes are harvested and the bunches are then hung up to dry for about 2 months in well-ventilated rooms. The carefully selected dried grapes are pressed and the must is put into small oak barrels not filled to the top to allow oxidation to occur. The barrels are sealed airtight and the Vin Santo is left to ferment and age in the same barrel for a period of about 5 years.Colour: Golden yellow with traces of amber.
Serve: Well chilled as an aperitif or with desserts and mature cheese.
Taste: A nose of toffees and caramel through to a palate with balanced sweetness and warm alcohol on the finish.
