This stunningly located boutique winery owned by Anne Caroline and Gerardo Cartellone is situated to the south of Mendoza in Tunyan in the Uco valley. Their neighbours are Lurton, Michel Rolland and Clos de los 7 owned by Chateau Lafite. The area is being promoted as the ‘Pauillac’ of Mendoza and is attracting much interest for the quality and prestige of its wines.
Antucura means ‘Stone of the Sun’ in Mapudungun, the ancient language of the Pehuenches, the first inhabitants of the area. Anne Caroline and Gerardo chose this name for their winery and lodge at Vista Flores to denote the harmony of their vineyards with the natural topography and rocky soil of the area.
The estate covers 120 hectares of which 100 have been planted. A guest house is about to be completed and a new modern winery is envisaged for 2008 which will be incorporated into the landscape with a lake so that the winery is in balance with the environment and scenery.
The wine consultant is Michel Rolland and the wines are the epitome of his usual rich style.
All in all, this is a beautifully prepared vision with the means and expertise to support it.
Grapes: 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon
Harvest: Hand harvested.
Vinification: Double selection of clusters and grapes; fermentation to 24-26 degrees centigrade in stainless steel tanks of 100-150hl; extended maceration during 30-45 days, natural malolactic fermentation. Aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels, then bottles were stored for 6 months with controlled temperature, light and humidity, before releasing.
Colour: Lively clean red coloured wine with deep intensity.
Taste: Ripe fruit, vanilla and spices on the nose. Concentrated and full bodied at mouth, with round tannins that gives untuosity. A persistent and balanced finish.
