August News Letter

Hello Friend

I am writing this newsletter from sunny Spain where I am combining a buying trip with a bit of a holiday! Whilst here we have been to a number of wineries and as a result we will be increasing our Spanish portfolio next month.   We have also been putting the finishing touches to the selection of wines that we are going to show at our forthcoming Spanish Wine Tasting at the Lord Leycester Hospital in Warwick on Friday 24 September. We are very honoured that Rosa Maria Jose, owner of Pinord winery in Penedes, will be at the tasting, talking about Pinord and their wines. On show will be eight delicious wines and proceeds from the evening will go to Cord charity with whom we have previously worked. Tickets for this event, priced at just £12.50 each, are now on sale both on our website and through Cord and Lord Leycester Hospital, and we are expecting them to sell quickly, so don’t delay, rally your friends and come and join us for an evening of great wines whilst raising money for an extremely worthwhile charity.

Through keen re-negotiation we are able to slightly reduce the price of our ever popular Bishops Leap Sauvignon Blanc from the St Clair winery in New Zealand. We are now able to offer it at £7.95 which is a really good price for such a classy wine.

The special offer on two of our Echeverria wines from Chile continues through August, reducing the prices of the Sauvignon Blanc and the Merlot Reserva from £8.60 to £6.75. We are also offering two wines from the Californian producer Parducci, their Pinot Noir 2008 £11.17 down to £9.95 and their Zinfandel 2005 £9.82 down to £8.45. If like us, you are a fan of dessert wines, you will be delighted to hear that two wines from Andrew Quady are also on offer this month. Elysium Black Muscat and Essencia Orange Muscat are both reduced from £9.22 to £8.15. Andrew Quady started his working life as a producer of fireworks and it has to be said that when he launched his first wine (the Orange Essencia) it caused a few fireworks of its own in the wine industry! If you are not familiar with these wines they really are good and well worth trying this month especially.

Speaking of fireworks, it has to be said that Catalunyans know how to put on a good firework display – we spent last night at the opening night of the Festa Major in the town in which we are staying, at which there was a stunning display which went on for two hours. On health and safety grounds it would not be allowed in the UK and indeed the government here tried to stop such events a few years ago, but the locals objected and the tradition continues, which we are delighted about as we would otherwise have missed a spectacular event!

We are off to another winery this week in the Barbera de la Conca area, so more about that in our next newsletter, then sadly the long journey home!

Hasta Septiembre
